DScope gemmological microscope

Comdiam/WTOCD is a subsidiary of the Diamond High Council that develops and produces hi-tech equipment for the analysis, certification and initial processing of diamonds.

Together with Comdiam/WTOCD, Smidesign designed a product that not only met market requirements but also (worldwide) statutory regulations: improved ergonomics, enhanced performance and better serviceability.

Based on results from an extensive user survey, different subsystems (dual oblique-illumination, continuously variable height-adjustment, electronic integration, mechanical manipulation) were developed to form a well-balanced finished product, ergonomically and functionally.

Three-dimensional CAD files produced a virtual prototype that could be translated directly into a functional prototype of milled aluminum.

The collaboration between Smidesign and the engineers at Comdiam/WTOCD resulted in an improved diagnostic microscope for the diamond industry, the sales of which exceeded all expectations.
